The use of high-speed gas jets to accelerate drug particles sufficiently to enable them to penetrate the skin was pioneered in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford.

Particle Therapeutics is a private Oxford-based drug delivery company applying this innovative delivery technique and new particle formulation technologies to bring the benefits of needle-free delivery to areas of medical need which are not currently being addressed.
